White Fillings (Bonding)
A white filling is a composite resin that is an affordable alternative to silver fillings, crowns, and veneers. White fillings can be used to fix broken or decayed teeth, but they have a shorter life than that of crowns or veneers. The average lifespan of a white filling is usually 4 to 7 years. Although its long-term durability is not as strong as that of other restorations, a white filling looks great initially and can be placed in a short appointment.
A crown is a porcelain replacement for a broken or decayed tooth structure. This is the most durable cosmetic option that restores natural chewing function. If a tooth cannot be repaired with a filling, a crown may be your best option.
A bridge consists of one or more replacement teeth anchored by a crown on each side. This is a permanent, long-term solution to replace missing teeth. The bridge acts as your new teeth, closing the gaps and restoring your smile. Note that a bridge is cemented into a position and is not removable.
Veneers are thin ceramic facings that are bonded to the front of your teeth. These are used to repair teeth that are discolored, broken down, and unsightly, making them beautiful again. A veneer is similar to a crown, but it does not cover the back of your tooth. If properly taken care of, a veneer has a long lifespan.
Dentures and Partials
Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. Patients who need to replace only a few teeth should consider a partial denture. If preferred, partials and dentures may be placed at the time of a tooth extraction. This immediate partial or denture will require a reline after healing has occurred.
